Have shown that in the last ten years studies on radiation similar to that emitted by this Industry have shown a MAJORITY of results showing biological effects. Out of 154 studies 88 or 57% showed biological effects, such as CANCER, genetic, molecular and cellular changes, electro physiology effects, behaviour changes etc. Survey by Dr. Henry Lai, Washington University, Seattle 2003. It was said that the amount of evidence for biological effects and characteristics of these are so alarming, that all efforts should be dedicated to find a way to minimize these effects. The World Health website is also showing over 400 pieces of research showing biological effects at the frequency used by the Mobile Industry. The hamlet of Wishaw is a prime example. Five women developed breast cancer, one age 38, three in their 40’s and one in her 50’s, one case of prostrate cancer, one bladder cancer, one lung cancer, three cases of pre-cancer cervical cells, one motor neurone disease, people have developed benign lumps, three cases of severe skin rashes and many villagers suffering with sleep problems, headaches, dizziness and low immune problems. Out of the eighteen houses surrounding the mast up to a range of 500 metres, 77% of the tiny hamlet have health related illness believed to be as a result of radiation from the mast, the outbreak of illness occurred in 2001 after seven years of exposure to the radiation emitted by the T-Mobile mast. We are now in connection with thousands of people who are suffering from this form of radiation. The Industry always mentioned the NRPB and ICNIRP guidelines but forgot to mention that these guidelines only protect the human body from overheating and do not take the biological effects into account. They forget to mention that the UK allows some of the highest guidelines set in the World. Why does the Industry and Government call them GUIDELINES? Because not one scientist in the World can tell you what the guidelines should be. Not one scientist in the world can tell us that this technology is safe. I recently challenged Professor Lawrie Challis, Head of the Governments MTHR research programme live on GMTV to put his reputation on the line and tell us that these masts are 100% safe, and guess what he couldn't. Dr Michael Clark from the NRPB said to me personally in a meeting held in June, 03 that, I quote " The situation is very worrying, but what can I do about it." I had to remind him that he is part of the NRPB advising our Government they should be doing something about it. An Ex-Government Military scientist who trained spies in microwave warfare for twelve years summed this technology up in one sentence he said "This Government, some of the Government scientists and this Industry will be held responsible for more deaths in peace time than any terrorist group in the world ever". We held a two and half hour meeting with Mike O'Brien Home Office Minister and DTi this year. He has agreed to look at the research that is stacking up Worldwide and evidence showing the cancer clusters early in the New Year. We are now in the process of putting this together on behalf of the Radiation Research Trust and have requested research from many World Leading Scientists. Mike O'Brien MP has agreed to look at the evidence which will hopefully lead to a government enquiry. Andrew Mitchell MP for Sutton Coldfield held a fifteen minute debate in Parliament regarding health issues and Mobile Phone Masts, early in 2004. My Oncologist and Breast Cancer Surgeon have sent a letter on 9th December saying that after fully participating in a meeting with the scientific experts at Little Aston and after reading all the documentation prior to that meeting, they agree that there is some scientific evidence that suggests microwaves can damage cells and that the issue needs to be raised at the highest level and funding released to support the debate and independent research to get a definitive answer. This letter of support will be used in the Parliament debate. The European Commission in Brussels, 20 October, 2003 has congratulated the Italian Presidency on securing agreement to meet legislation designed to protect the health and safety of workers exposed to electromagnetic fields and waves. The directive, which will be proposed by the Commission next year, will require employers to carry out assessments of the risks posed to their employees from electro-magnetic fields, which include mobile phone antennae. It states that Scientific data shows that overexposure to electro-magnetic fields can have serious consequences for workers' health. Who will pay for that? Two recent cases have been won through the courts. Mr Justice Richards' recent ruling in October, 03 in the case of Mrs Jodie Phillips and Hutchinson 3G regarding the location of masts. He said "The question is not just is this an acceptable location but is this the best location?" then "and for the purpose of answering that question, one can and should look at whatever alternative there may be". He also warned that people's health fears had to be taken into account when applications were made to put up masts. A successful appeal by Chorleywood was won in October, 03 against Orange. The planning authority Three Rivers District Council refused permission for an 8m mobile phone mast in Grove Way, Chorleywood, citing proximity to a School. The Chorleywood Action Group challenged the planning inspectorate. "The Inspector wrote that because the mast conformed to ICNIRP guidelines, there was no need to consider health concerns. The legal judgment is that the Inspector failed to adequately consider the weight to be given to the health concerns". The legal point was conceded by the government without the case having to be fought in the High Court. Chorleywood was awarded the costs of bringing the case to court. This decision is important. It underlines that health concern is a MATERIAL planning consideration, and shows that the current ICNIRP microwave safety standards are insufficient justification for planning application. These points have been established in law before, but seem to be often forgotten or ignored by planners, the mobile phone operators and the Planning Inspectorate. Members of the public who are told that there is "nothing that can be done" to appose mobile phone masts are not being told the whole truth. We would like to campaign for Enhanced Guidance with regards to PPG8 to include the precautionary Principal and for health to become material consideration, In light of the Chorleywood and Jodie Phillips court cases. The UK as leading member of the EU we should be adopting the precautionary principal. Other Countries in the EU such as France, Spain, Italy and Greece are adopting safer distance of up to 300 to 600 metres and lower power output. Our own Government recommended the precautionary principal to be adopted in the Stuart Report they said to proceed with caution when placing masts anywhere near sensitive areas such as Schools, Hospitals, and People. No one seems to be following the recommendations.
